Health law: Constitutional or not?
by Zivka Deleva

Even after it has been voted by the Congress and signed by the U.S. president Barack Obama, the health care law still is a source for headache for a lot of people. The thing is some courts are still trying to test the constitutionality of the law. Few states have already proclaimed as a nonfunctional one. Obama’s administration is trying to convince everyone that beside that negative federal court balance, that the law’s implementation must be complete. Few days ago, the U.S. District Judge in Virginia led by Henry E. Hudson had come up with a decision the requirement for almost everyone to have a health insurance was exactly unconstitutional. Such examples are ! not to much, that is how the administration is concealing itself. Officials believe that they are actually doing pretty well in that persuading process of the law’s constitutionality. The fact is that the new health care law is new to a everybody and it will take some time until they get to handle it right. The Health and Human Services Department will gather them in a few days in Washington so they will have a clearer picture of how the system should actually function. About 20 countries are putting efforts to overturn the law and they will discuss in Florida court. But there are also people that believe that the law should get a chance for implementation. The obligation for everyone to be insured however is not going to be put in force before 2014. The Supreme Court will give its last word. Obama waits for that, I am sure. But, till it comes, Obama might lose its mandate. .

We don´t wanna hear your stories...
by Milota Sidorova

WikiLeaks are changing the face of our media reflection and improve general critical thinking about media and politicians – in fact, they don´t serve anything new to us – silently we have guessed there is something rotten in Iraq and Afghan wars and many other world cases, but we just didn´t want to hear and speak about it. WikiLeaks are not the problem – if you look critically at its content, you realize the site is protecting its sources. People who submitted materials are on the great media and politician haunt. They are haunted by Washinghton and many other governments the way and the words that are threatening even to us – those who li! ve in so called democratic society. Now, even if WikiLeaks offer direct evidences of the worst crimes, those who are responsible have a full mouth shouting about espionage and so called „security violations“. They don´t seem to realize the graveness of the information and ignore commenting it in media. And it seems like an absurd drama if a thief points his finger and shouting „catch the one who blame me“. And it is a crucial time for world media – because it has been visible that most of them has been just acting according to interests of their owners. At the time, real solutions were happening we got overloaded by amazing amount of raw news and reports – that were far from something called responsible journalism. We got overwhelmed by the news of catastrophes and disasters and how many people died during bus crash etc and real issues didn´t get a real space. We got used to fall back and remained silent and impassive against t! hem. And now we see a sharp difference between the quality of! reports media were serving us every day and real informations. We have to enjoy and realize this huge and terrifying difference. Many say that WikiLeaks are changing the way we look at the media and the powers ruling this world – public is more cautious to their words and don´t take it 100 percent. And it needs no further commentary if politicians speak openly about a murder of a Julien Assange, founder of WikiLeaks and if suddenly he gets arrested for sexual harrasment and media say nothing more about it. Everything remains loud and silent in a strange and bizzard way. Politicians are proud to be on the haunt of WikiLeaks doing everything to stop them – blocking it on many servers, stopping its financial support like blocking PayPal. But WikiLeaks were ready for this – so far they have been successfully changing servers and divided the content between mroe than 100,000 people. According to Assange, even without him WikiLeaks would continue the work. And it&! #180;s been a phenomenal project that got enough power to disturb the stability of increasing censorhip and global media and power control. However, now is the time for the public to make the second step. WikiLeaks is the battlefield of a current war.

Tax cuts possibly affecting Social Security funds.
by Milota Sidorova

A payroll tax cut program has been discussed in American media past weeks. The compromise that emerged between Democrats and Republicans meant extension and modification of Bush era tax reduction program – that in fact targeted mostly wealthy people. President Obama has taken it as one of main points of Democratic agenda after Congressional elections when it turned out to be clear that Democrats would no longer pass their reforms that easily. Obama and Republicans agreed that tax cuts would prolong and be reachable by everyone, although it was seen as a very pro-social step aimed for the poorest class. This week more details came out – it has been decided that w! orkers could reduce their 6.2 percent payroll tax for Social Security down to 4.2 percent for the next year. That means that worker will pay less into Social Security with a tax cut of about $400 for each $20,000 wage. The tax cut will increase following an increasing salary. The person or couples earning $40,000 will get reduction about $800 and people earning $106,800 the maximum amount of wages subject to Social Security taxes will get $2,160 cut. Optimists say people will spend these money on local level, boosting economy, realists say it will empty some other funds (Social Security) and pessimists say it will crash hard these funds. 2 percent tax reduction has been seen as a hammer on retirement funds which are to be emptied in 2037 according to the worst scenario taking into account aging population and other factors. In 2010 a retirement fund has ended in red lights for the first time since 1980 showing there were less people willing or able to donate this fund. Th! e tax cut will finish by the end of 2011.

Agreement on New START and tax policies
by Milota Sidorova

Few weeks ago US President Barack Obama stepped on unstable ground of negotiations with Republicans. The party that surprisingly took over the majority in the House was expected to slow down the pace and easy passage of so called „Democrat's reforms“. But according to last news the first White House meeting went along quite smoothly – cautious, vague but without major crisis. Last time US-Russian nuclear treaty START was on the program along with taxes. START that was seen as Obama's personal achievment or a demand to pass on swallowed a lot of meeting leaving no room for more problems. But despite some objections Republicans were literally expected to agr! ee with the treaty decreasing number of old nuclear weapons in both countries on equal 1,550. Expections turned out to be true after the Senate quickly ratified the proposal. Obama didn't hesitate to express confidence over the step. The treaty called a New START just continues negotiations of previous President Bush with Russian President Boris Yeltzin in 1993. New START was passed at the time when Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski was on his official journey to White House. Despite 1,000 years of complicated relationships with Russia he virtually approved the treaty. Republicans voiced support for New START even before the tax plan was passed. According to original proposal, tax cuts and benefits would be extended for the poorest class, but Republicans changed that and imposed tax reductions on everyone, including people with income over $250,000. These people were original target of Obama's social reform, but in order to make his plans to go through Congress, tax eq! uality seemed to be just a little sacrifice. Tax reductions wi! ll be en riched by 13-month jobless benefits.

Inspirational Elizabeth Edwards dies at 61
by Zivka Deleva

There are not a lot of impressive people today that you can say wow look how brave that person is, or how inspiring is. Or maybe we forgot to look for such examples. Maybe we are looking them in some eyes of famous stars or politicians and forget to turn around our neighborhood, our colleagues and see the heroes. For the U.S. people and I would say no matter what country people, the name of Elizabeth Edwards means a strong person than didn’t give up easily on the life’s challenges. She died yesterday at 61 year, losing the fight against the evil of the today’s living – the cancer. Someone would say, well she is not the first and certainly not the las! t victim of modern lives disease. But what happened in between the years of 61 is what is more important. Edwards has been inspiration for a lot of people. She has lost her child when very young. Her struggle with the breast cancer lasted for six years. Courage and determination were her real face impressions and people will definitely remember her for that. She wasn’t ashamed of the disease and talked openly for that and tried to help as much as she could to all those that suffered her pain. She was the wife of John Edwards, who is a former presidential candidate. On top of everything, Elizabeth had to fight even with her husband’s love affair. They never divorced though didn’t live together. "The days of our lives, for all of us, are numbered. We know that. And yes, there are certainly times when we aren't able to muster as much strength and patience as we would like. It's called being human. But I have found that in the simple act of living with hope, ! and in the daily effort to have a positive impact in the world! , the da ys I do have are made all the more meaningful and precious. And for that I am grateful" – this is what she wrote on her Facebook profile. Do you need more phrases after this? R.I.P. Elizabeth Edwards!

Senate Republicans fight for extended tax cuts
by Zuzana Zelenakova

US Senate Republicans threatened to block all legislation in their attempt to achieve extension of tax cuts. "While there are other items that might ultimately be worthy of the Senate's attention, we cannot agree to prioritize any matters above the critical issues of funding the government and preventing a job-killing tax hike," reads the official letter 42 Republican senators wrote to Majority Leader Harry Reid. The number is enough to put basically any action Majority Leader would want to pass to a halt. GOP fights to extend tax cuts that are to expire in January including those for the wealthy. Even though President Obama was willing to negotiate with GOP and achieve an! agreement, saying all tax breaks could be extended for a year or two, Republicans would not compromise. “It should be permanent,” said Sen. Judd Gregg, R-N.H. “We’ve got to get this economy to pick up, and if you raise taxes, you’re going to stifle the economy significantly. I’m sure that somebody’s explained that to the president.” However, the threat GOP members issued Wednesday will not apply to recent arms control treaty with Russia as was declared a top priority by President Obama and set aside from routine legislation. What is thhreatened though is Democrats´ effort to change the situation of openly gay members of the military, but also other important items such as those concerning young illegal immigrants. "Republicans have pleaded with Democrats to put aside their wish-list to focus on the things Americans want us to focus on. They've ignored us. The voters repudiated their agenda at the polls. They've ignored t! hem. Time is running out. They're ignoring that," Senate Repub! lican Le ader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said in remarks on the Senate floor. "The election was a month ago. It's time to get serious. It's time to focus on priorities."
