The change will be stopped before it actually comes
by Barbora Misakova

Do you know what I hate about politics the most? It is that certainty of politicians that their way of ruling the country is the best one and the only one which could pull the country out of the recession and hard post-crisis times. And the same could be said also about common people and their demands. When Barack Obama has become the first African American President of the United States everyone expected that a big change will come. Everyone expected the change will come immediately and with no troubles. It is just one year and few months what Obama has assumed office and Americans are frustrated and disappointed. But what did they expect that would happen? President (of a! ny country, of any skin color etc.) is still a human. It is the head of the country he must represent in the best way and of course he must protect it as well. But he is not a magician who could simply use his magic wand to change everything we are unsatisfied with and any other politician will be able to do that neither. White House press secretary Robert Gibbs admitted that Republicans could take control of the US House of Representatives at the November 2 midterm elections. If Republicans make big gains in November and wipe out Democratic majorities in the Senate and the House, President Obama will have a tougher time pushing his political agenda through Congress. That’s why he tries to convince impatient Americans that his economic policies are working and that improvements will take time. But as it seems it is not enough. Obama’s overall approval rating among independents decreased from 56 percent to 46.

Sarkozy: There is no corruption in France!
by Zivka Deleva

Eric Woerth is an honest man, a competent man. He enjoys my full confidence - French President Nicolas Sarkozy said in a TV interview, over the accusation of accepting illegal donations for the 2007 presidential campaign. Few weeks ago, his man, Labor Minister Eric Woerth was pointed that took over £ 125,000 from the richest lady in the country and her late husband, Liliane Bettencoourt, the heiress of one of the most renowned companies in France. The media wrote that Woerth has after that granted the money to Sarkozy’s campaign. At that time, Woerth was a key person for fundraising for the elections. The newest reform on which France is dedicated now is the con! troversial pension reform bill, in which the number of the years that Frenchmen are going to get to work is going to be increased for two. That, normally, upsets the French people. Exactly that reform is been trusted to Mr. Woerth, who is also a treasurer of Sarkozy’s Union for Popular Movement. "The political class, left and right alike, is in general honest. French public officials are people of great rigor" – Sarkozy said. He is optimistic when it comes to the reform, that by the end of October, the reform will pass. Another thing that has made Woerth in the center of public attention, was the fact that she faced a conflict of interest scandal, because his wife Florence has been working with Patrice de Maistre, who is wealth manager, but resigned last month. Sarkozy is trying to convince the people of France that the evil news were only aiming to put a dark mark on his administration that is now so into the pension system reform. On the behalf of the cas! e, the Labor minister denies everything. Now, you choose whom ! you woul d believe.

Belgique tenant la présidence de l'UE
by Milota Sidorova

Poles chose businessman for their president
by Zivka Deleva

Polish people have chosen their new president. The businessman Bronislaw Komorowski has won their confidence on Sunday’s presidential elections. Unlike the most often called parties – nationalistic, social-democratic, democratic parties the one that he leads is called Civic Platform and if someone is going to be joyful for this choice, businessmen and investors should. After some preliminary polls, Komorowski won 53 percent of the vote against 47 that went to Jaroslaw Kaczynski, the leader of the opposition party Law and Justice. It didn’t take a lot the leader of the right wing party to admit that he was the loser. In an economically difficult time, it is! more than needed for the politicians to pay more attention to the attraction of investments as much as possible. It is expected that this will happen to Poland, if we look at the fact that Prime minister Donald Tusk as a very close friend to Komorowski will push the country into new trade challenges. Though this ex-communist country, the biggest in the euro zone, didn’t have huge recessive problems, still, when the bear plays in the neighborhood, it will come in our yard too. But, still, the budget deficit, the most popular item in the modern countries, didn’t shun Poland. "Today democracy has won, our Polish democracy. It is important not to foment divisions but to build a sense of unity” – said Komorowski in a speech. Poland is a parliamentary state, but the president has some important roles and right to veto to some governmental decisions. The last Polish president Lech Kaczynski died in a air crush in Russia almost three months ago.

Two french ministers gaffes solved with resignation
by Zivka Deleva

Development Minister Alain Joyandet and Christian Blanc, a junior minister had to leave their conformable armchairs, because they were bad boys. President Nicolas Sarkozy punished the both of them for spending states's money for their private needs. Maybe this would sound overreaction, as far as some Balkan country is concerned when it comes to politicians taking responsibility for even greater crimes. Joyandet and Blanc used taxpayers' money to pay for private jet and cigars. The sensitivity of the moment is even bigger if even the small children know that the world is in economic crisis. As politics is canting almost at any step, it is not weird that the both ministers ha! ve gave their resignations on their own, so they could wash their conscience. Still, they didn't do it on purpose, Sarkozy and French Prime minister didn't have a choice in the angry eyes of the public, not to stay indifferent and push them towards the truth. "As a man of honour, I cannot accept being the victim of allegations. After much thought, I have decided to leave the government. Not one euro of public money was used toward my personal wealth or toward those of my near ones," Joyandet wrote on his blog. I don't know what comes to their minds, but how come, adults think that their act could finish in their secret tunnels and never come out of there. Who knows how many other stupid mistakes they have done in the two years that they have the minister's positions. Mr. Responsible for the country's development (I mean what an irony), few months ago spent 116,500 euros for a private plane to take him to the island Martinique, due to an emergency meeting on the Haiti e! arthquake. But, this wasn't the only thing on which he was cri! ticized - he got an illegal permit to make an extension to his house in the monden resort of Saint Tropez. His friend in stupidness, Mr.Blanc has spent total 12,000 euros for Cuban cigars. How much should one smoke in a lifetime to spend so much money on cigars?

Senator Robert Byrd died at 92
by Zivka Deleva

U.S Democrats have lost one of their fellows in the Congress few days ago. Senator Robert Byrd at the age of 92 died on Monday. He was the member of the Congress with the longest mandate ever. He died at Inova Fairfax Hospital near Washington, D.C. where he was hospitalized with a heat-related illness. He had the Senator’s seat since 1952! As experts say, this loss is not going to cost the governing Democrats their predominance in the Congress, expressed with figures it is 59 counter 41. The U.S legislative permits in case of death, the mandate not to be finished, but replaced with another politician. In this case, it is very much arguably that the West Virginia Gove! rnor Joe Manchin is going to take over Mr. Byrd's seat that belongs to him two more years. Byrd was a politician which was known for his civil right fights. Maybe the Democrat's dominance is not going to be endangered, but Byrd's efforts to tighten the regulation of the financial industry it seems like is going to wait for a while, or drop in the water. But the fight is not yet lost, because it seems like the Democrats are doing well in getting the 60 Senate votes as much they need. Byrd is a history of himself. He has been close to more than ten U.S presidents. President Obama Barrack called Byrd a true champion and that the Senate of the United Stated of America has lost a “venerable institution”. Everybody agreed, no matter which party he belonged, that he was a man with a fighter’s spirit and abiding faith. Once he said about him self: "I love to serve. I love the Senate. If I could live another 100 years, I'd like to continue in the Senate," – ! Byrd said in a Reuters interview, for years ago. May him rest ! in peace , and I hope that his example is going to be inspirational to a lot of young politicians.

Belgium holding EU presidency
by Milota Sidorova

Whether it is kind of accident, I can't say, but it seems that every country holding EU governing relay-race has been kind on politically or economically tormented. The last year it was Czech Republic whose government had failed shortly before the official chair was taken. We skip Sweeden dealing its social and economical problems and focus on Spain that could become another Greece. Spainish chair was hit by rough economical reform proposals and public strikes. These days it is Belgium keeping the relay for another six months and Belgium is dealing with two almost autonomies within. Last weeks, fierce talks and election took over the country bringing to the boil northern Du! tch speaking Flanders and southern French speaking Wallonia regions. Although the problems between these two smaller countries have lasted perhaps hundreds years, reunion may be more than herculean challenge, after the last elections. Victory belonged to Flemish separatist New Flemish Alliance led by Bart de Wever. In current situation, in the absence of a national government, the presidency was taken by Belgium's outgoing caretaker Prime Minister Yves Leterme. But national problem is not the only one cause of nerviosity, if spoken of Belgium presidency. After the controversial passage of Lisbon Treaty, the position of permanent EU president was created. And the seat was held by a former Belgium Prime Minister Herman Van Rompuy who could use his direct and indirect influence on EU policies and economies during the most vulnerable euro crisis. During the time when EU speaks of unprecedently creating two euro currencies and multiplied layers of huge loans, Belgium is certain! ly not the most stable country to be relied on.

Merkel's pick for president approved
by Barbora Misakova

Christian Wilhelm Walter Wulff, a German politician of the conservative Christian Democratic Union became a new President of Germany on 30 June 2010. He won 625 of 1242 votes in the third ballot of the Federal Convention what underscored Merkel’s fading authority within her ruling coalition. Even though Merkel’s candidate lastly won, his victory came up with the third round of voting what proved that hopes of a strong support from her governing coalition were dashed. His opposition candidate Joachim Gauck won 494 votes. Although Wulff led in every round of the secret ballot, he was unable to garner the absolute majority needed in the first two rounds as members ! of Merkel’s own coalition broke ranks to support his opponent. Wulff, a lawyer and career politician with a clean-cut, inoffensive image sounded an optimistic note after his election. “I am looking forward to this responsible position.” he said. His rival Gauck congratulated Wulff on his victory, but everyone knows that coalition is unstable as nineteen members of the coalition did not vote for Wulff. “Today’s events clearly show that Merkel can’t hold together her majority.” said Werner Weidenfeld, a political science professor at Munich’s Ludwig Maximilian University. The center-right coalition needed a renewal and it hoped a successful presidential election will silence critics of Merkel’s leadership. Unfortunately for then “the infighting will continue.” Merkel refuses any speculations and insists that “what counts is that we now have a new president, and a president who was elected with absolute ma! jority.” She just added: “Christian Wulff will be ! a wonder ful representative for this country.”
