Sarah Palin rallies thousands in Harry Reid's hometown
by Magdalena Rosova

Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin blasted top Democrats at a massive Tea Party rally on Nevada on Saturday when she urged voters to remove their local Senator, Democrat Harry Reid and to not support him in mid-term elections. The “Showdown in Searchlight” was the first event out of three-week US tour of political demonstrations in 44 cities of United States. Among many others speakers Sarah Pali drew attention the most. Pali was Republican vice presidential candidate in 2008 and now is one of the most popular conservative politicians in U.S. Crowds came to listen to anti-Democratic speakers. Organizers of the event estimates that 10,000 people from every ! US state joined the event. In spite of anger with the government, people were happy and rally participants spoke with joyous tone. Gary Tangiers of Los Angeles said he was angry but happy to be with his people. Nevada's senator Harry Reid did not come for the event but stated that the election would be decided by Nevadans and not people from other states who come just for one day to have a tea party. Even though many people do not agree with Reid's politics, he is still very popular in Searchlight. Reid's father and grandfather worked in mines in the are of Searchlight and in age 29 he became the youngest governor in the state. Therefore people of Searchlight are very protective of him. The Tea Party movement took it names from a demonstration in 1773 when colonist threw packages of tea into the Boston Harbor as a protest against taxes imposed by the British government.

Demokrati majú dostatok hlasov na schválenie reformy zdravotníctva
by Magdalena Rosova

Nový návrh má pokryť starostlivosť o 95 percent Američanov a vyžaduje poistenie každého občana krajiny. ! Republikáni však neveria, že demokrati budú! ; ma# 7; pri hlasovaní dostatok podpory a sľúbili, že spravia všetko, čo bude možné, aby reformu blokovali. Hlasovanie prebehne v nedeľu poobede. Ak navrhovaná reforma získa potrebnú podporu, stane sa zákonom hneď po tom, čo ju Obama podpíše. Obama odcestoval do Washingtonu, kde žiadal demokratov, aby podporili reformu v rozhodujúcom hlasovaní, neúspech by pre demokratickú stranu znamenal silnú politickú ranu na domácom poli. Prieskumy verejnej mienky ukazujú, že podpora Obamu klesla kvôli sporom a debatám ohľadom reformy zdravotníctva až na 50 percent.

Democrats have votes for health bill
by Magdalena Rosova

Decmocrats in the US Congress are sure that they have enough votes to pass a healthcare reform bill. Healthcare reform is a key part of Barack Obama's policy in US. John Larson, a head of the House Democratic Caucus, said on ABC that Democrats have enough votes to pass the bill despite strong opposition from Republicans. The new legislation would cost up to $2.5 trillion and would extend health coverage to 32 million uninsured industry practices. The bill would cover 95 percent of all Americans and everyone would need to have insurance. Republicans criticize the plan saying it would increase the budget deficit and reduce choices for patients. The healthcare insurance! industry is strongly against the plan and according to polls many Americans also oppose it. However, it seems that Democrats found enough votes to pass the bill. Even anti-abortion Democrat Bart Stupak, who had opposed the plan, has now decided to support the bill. His support persuaded many others Democrats who were afraid that the bill would allow federal funding of abortions. Republicans do not believe Democrats have enough votes to pass the bill and they promised to do everything possible to block it. The House will vote on the bill on Sunday afternoon. If the bill gets sufficient support it will become law once Obama signs it. Obama traveled to Capitol Hill and urged House Democrats to support the bill in the crucial moment, otherwise the party will be politically hurt in its home district. Because of the angry debates over the bill, Obama's public approval ratings fell to about 50 percent in polls.

Massive direct attack on public mind!
by Milota Sidorova

Can we speak of democracy nowdays? Well, hard question, but the answer certainly points to the option – no! As mentioned thousands times ago, the value of our lifetime is an information and if you count the richest men on this planet you will find out they are all doing business in media or advertising branch. Wrong information may cause even the “most” powerful market Wall Street to fall – it can ruin a person, but create the war as well.As getting old, one realizes his or her whole life was about following some information that created the world of fiction. Information create values, characters and social behavior – strange, but true. Some sta! tes declare themselves being democratic – but what does it mean to be democratic? The right to do the business at free will? It seems like this.People, certain groups are fighting for power that unfortunately for them still comes with the elections. Just by this, they are limited by public. Public can be dangerous – it can show its disagreement in many ways. Look at Greece or Finland– the countries have been stuck several times this month. The protests are wasting billions and billions. Politicians have to react immediately. But when we look at the global perspective – the protests are the last action taken by public. And as many times, it's been proven, they are seldom of some use. Some politicians ignore them, they even send military to squeeze the masses, to shot women and children or they stop each source of unwanted information in the country.Sad, but true. That's how is the policy made today. We don't have to go that far for the next of those irr! itating evidences – the Health care reform from American! preside nt Barack Obama. The reform has been in passage for more than a year. Obama and Democrats failed to get serious support for the bill and after 12 months they don't find it.Each relevant poll is showing public disagreement with the proposal. But Obama and the government acts like they don't give a slightest damn about it.They showed the clear message – the bill will be passed. And now, coming back to the beginning and the power of information, the massive advertising campaign has been launched in some of the states. The campaign wasting more than $1 million a day has overflown voters of Senators who refused to sign the document. Business groups are depicting them to be responsible for job-killing if they don't sign. They show it to people. And it is not the only case of business groups – some unions are threatening Senators with their fall in upcoming elections in November.Again, another fight for the opinion has started. And it's coward if politicians can't find th! e support for the bill normal way, if there is something like normal way. They are failing to do this by lobbying so the last step is the fear. It is the fear they are feeding the public, squeezed by the worst unemployment in decades. So far, they didn't provide any reasonable explanation why the refusal of the reform should kill job positions of American people. But the ads have been already in the air.I believe it will come to the passage of the reform at the end. Because public mind can be transformed – one million dollars a day is the least cost of the price. And quoting the singer of Canadians legendary music group Skinny Puppy : “There is no will or power to change the things, because the mass has been already stifled by psychotropic adverts.”

Socialists take lead in French regional elections
by Magdalena Rosova

The first round of regional elections held in France this Sunday brought victory to Socialist-led left. Socialists got more than 50 percent of the vote and defeated Nicolas Sarkozy's UMP party. Voter turnout at election was at record low. According to final official results, Socialists gathered 29.48 percent of votes, while UMP ended with only 26.18 percent. European Green had 12.47 percent and National Front just 11.74 percent. The Left Front, a coalition of far left, won only 5.7 percent in the election and the centrist MoDem party hardly reached 4.24 percent. French Ministry of Interior says only 53.65 people participated in the election. It is the record low for a re! gional election. The second round with the leading parties will come on March 21. The final election it will decide who runs 26 regions in France. Martine Aubury, a secretary of Socialist Party, finds results of the election to be great triumph of the party. Aubury further added that her party would try to create as big coalition of left parties as possible. She called voters to attend the second round and confirm the results from Sunday. Former Socialist presidential candidate Segolene Royal said that voters showed their disagreement with the government of Nicolas Sarkozy. But French Prime Minister Fraçois Fillon does not find the results of the election crucial. According to Fillon, Socialists won just because of the low turnout. Fillon insists that regional elections do not reflect overall opinions of the government and called voters to come and support the president in next election.

Što né pravi ženi?
by Barbora Misakova

Baš kako što ženite go slavele vo minatoto.

What makes us women?
by Barbora Misakova

Eight March is every year celebrated as International Women’s Day – a major day of global celebration of women. This celebration was political event of Socialists in the past, but now it lost its political flavor and it is just a day when men can express their love for women. But many times it is neither about love nor respect, but about silly jokes just like our male politicians showed. Why is that? Is it because women are still more and more independent? Or is it because they are not as easily frightened as in the past? Or is it because men are afraid of losing their leading positions? I don’t want to start any feministic discussion, I just think the ori! ginal meaning of this day is already gone. Just like the women celebrated in the past. While France 24 sees in two French female politicians an example of emancipated women which should be celebrated, I see (at least in one) a person struck by political life full of men. Nadine Morano, secretary of state for families, came to Neuves-Maison establishment where the clients were smoking cigarettes. When she told the owner to stop them, he just answered: “If I played by the rules, I would long ago have been forced to shut up shop.” Morano busted a café and went straight to the local police station and told the gendarmes to enforce the ban. As she said for local daily L’Est Republique: “I am a minister of the republic. If I went into a bar (where people are smoking) and did nothing, I would be condoning this illegal activity.” If it was just Morano’s offended pride or real devotion to french law, is hard to say. The truth is I would hardl! y could give a flower or show any devotion to such a woman, ev! en on th e Women’s Day…

Will it finally pass?
by Barbora Misakova

It is already a year from controversial Obama’s health legislation and tomorrow this long time period could be ended. Objections went not only from the side of Republicans but also from some undecided Democrats. Even though there is only about 9 Democrats who voted “nay”, it is questioning if the Obama’s final product will persuade them to support it. But there is also possibility that lawmakers would be afraid of getting the flip-flopper label when they switch their vote after a year of pros and cons debate. According to Nancy Pelosi, House Speaker, it will have to happen as it is necessary to round up the votes to pass the Senate’s version of! the legislation with a package of Obama’s changes. Changes were designed to make the Senate bill more palatable to House Democrats. Making changes that would suit everyone is more than difficult. Obama will probably come with ideas that at least have the fingerprints of Republicans. Question if is it going to help him, is hardly to answer as Republicans who want Obama to tear up the existing bills and start over. Pelosi will need 216 votes. But counting with all the Democrats who voted “yes” in November is little bit risky. Some of the top targets may be the nine lawmakers that are undecided or undeclared. Three of them are retiring and five others are freshmen. One of the freshmen is Frank Kratovil, whose spokesman said: “It’s still sort of up-in-the-air right now. If the bill that comes back to the House looks anything like the first bill, he’ll vote against it.” As Press secretary Robert Gibbs said: “I don’t doubt th! at he will … do the same thing this time to get the vote! s necess ary.”
