Watch out, Mrs Clinton!
by Claudia Sonea

Politics is so muddy that you get dirty just by reading of it. There is no more respect for anything and politicians belong to carnivore specie. On Tuesday at Drexel University a televised debate took place, aired by MSNBC. All the presidential candidates were present except former Alaska Sen. Mike Gravel who did not meet fundraising and polling thresholds. After the last debate that took place a month ago Clinton has solidified her front-runner position, gaining in polls, taking the lead in fundraising and dominating the agenda. Therefore she was now the target of democrats Barack Obama and John Edwards. Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich and New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson are just some of the candidates that expressed their discontent towards the fact that after 17 minutes they still did not have the chance to talk and none of the questions were addressed to either one of them. Two months before the first presidential primary votes her front-runner status was underscored. Obama, the Illinois senator, attacked the changing position on the North American Free Trade Agreement, torture policies and the Iraq war, while Edwards, the former North Carolina senator, accused her for supporting the corrupt system in Washington, DC. The former first lady defended her position saying that she will continue to stand against Republicans; however she avoided talking about certain subjects like the fiscal crisis threatening Social Security, stooping Iran of developing a nuclear weapon and if she agrees into giving driver's licenses to illegal immigrants. Her Senate vote in favor of designating Iran's Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist group was also criticized by Obama, Edwards and others saying that Bush could interpret it as a congressional approve. She confronted them saying that it is not good to go to war, but nor to stay and do nothing and the best approach is full court press on the diplomatic front. At Edwards attack regarding the position on Iraq war, Clinton replied that she is against it, but they must be realistic and understand that it cannot happen that fast and the troops cannot be withdrawn totally. Richardson criticized his rivals' action and said that there is nothing to fear because more than 50 percent of the American public would not vote for her. Moderator Tim Russert of NBC News referring to an offstage comment overheard by an Associated Press reporter asked Clinton she told an Iowa voter that she would raise the cap on payroll taxes when the proposal is not part of her platform. She defended saying that on Social Security she would rather use a bipartisan commission to recommend ways to strengthen the program. I wonder why Clinton was persona non-grata at the debate and the main point of shroud attacks. Is that they fear she might win the elections? Don't go away, you might just find out.

Banned by the media.
by Barbie Kunkelova

To be banned by the media means to be interesting for the wide public. The trailer for the short documentary movie about the Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton has garnered huge audience figures & only on the Internet it was about one million viewers! It would win the prizes "Most viewed video on Google Video", "Most viewed video on YouTube" and "The only political video that made it to Google's Top 100 list", even though it was unlisted. During the last week it was the most viewed video. And that is only the trailer. How about the movie itself? It is basically a documentary that is using exclusive home videos of Hillary to expose the illegalities that elected her to the Senate plus the obstructions of justice that keep her there. It shows how she assisted her husband Bill in defrauding a major donor and tells the full story about of the business mogul Peter Franklin Paul's civil fraud against Hillary. This action (called Hillary's Chappaquiddick, according to WorldNet Daily) started in 2000. Hillary then destroyed the Stan Lee Media (Paul's entertainment company) by ordering him to deny of a $17 million deal. Instead, Paul was directed to fund the gala event prior to the election of 2000. The movie starts with a scene of Cher and other A-list entertainers saluting Bill and Hillary Clinton on a glamorous event. It should be released worldwide on November 1, 2007 (according to Prison Planet) and is one hour long. It debuted on Harvard University on October 26. Many Hollywood filmmakers who usually tended to support presidential candidates helped behind the scenes with finishing this movie. Anonymously. The sweet taste of revenge satisfies their minds.

Contracts on Rudy.
by Barbie Kunkelova

(Rudy) Rudolph William Louis Giuliani (now 63 years old) is an American lawyer, politician and businessman. He is the 107th mayor of New York State since 1994. Currently he is preparing for running in the presidential election of 2008. He is a liberal Republican and used to serve (in 1970-1975) as an attorney for the U.S. Attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York (attorneys responsible for solving civil and criminal cases in the Manhattan, Bronx, Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, Orange, Dutchess and Sullivan counties). His father was a criminal, convicted once for a felony assault and robbery. Rudy himself was slightly differently oriented; he even considered becoming a priest after attending a Catholic school and the Manhattan College (majoring in philosophy and political science). However, three years later he was on a completely different track â€" he graduated with a Juris Doctor. He became famous after prosecuting many of the toughest high-profile cases (4,152 convictions, according to Wikipedia). He was famous for his mob-busting practices, for the effort to jail all drug dealers, combat organized crime and for fighting against mafia families. This attitude brought a little trouble into his life. In year 1986, the Mafia Commission Trial took place. It was Rudy who indicted eleven members of the "Five Families". Eight of them were found guilty of all charges and sentenced to hundreds of years in jail. After this successful step, the leaders of two of the Five Families were planning a hit on Rudy, but were over voted by the other three. Recently there has been another “plan”, but it was quickly resolved by FBI. Rudy himself isn’t too worried about his life, no matter what value the mafia puts on his head.

Tony Blair will reveal it all
by Nina Gotzmannova

To be the most powerful man in an important world country is no doubt unforgettable experience. Tony Blair, the former British Prime Minister thinks so, and that’s probably why he decided to publish his own memoir. In age of 54 he wants to put all his thoughts about his time as a Member of Parliament and Prime Minister. Better now, when his memory is still good. The publisher of this bookshelf-jewel will be Random House, the world’s biggest book publisher. The date of publication or the price of money Blair will receive has not been revealed yet. Tony Blair was born as Anthony Charles Lynton Blair on May 6 1953. His past was undoubtedly connected with rock music. Before he begins his study in the University of Oxford, he wanted to make his money as a rock music promoter. As a student, he played guitar and sang for a rock band. In a recent interview revealed another famous Briton, Ozzy Osbourne, that rock music is still a passion for Tony Blair. Osbourne said that Blair asked him how to play Iron Man, because he is playing that with mistakes. But readers of Blairs’ memoir most probably won’t find these informations in the new book. If he wants to reflect his years he spent as a leader of United Kingdom, he will concentrate on other stories. He may be writing about birth of his son Leo, who was the first child born to a serving Prime Minister in 150 years, or what he thinks about George Michael video, which has portrayed him as a dog. Anyways, memoir of someone who has led a country (no matter which one) is always interesting reading.

French record
by Claudia Sonea

Surely it is well known that French presidents always keep their personal life private. However, Sarkozy has always filled the first pages with his marriage issues. Even the run for the president was marked by the fact that the adversary was a woman. So, the 15-word statement made on Thursday confirmed all the rumors that circulated in the last months about marriage problems, France first couple is no more. The job for first lady is vacant. Cecilia, the 42-years-old wife of Nicholas Sarkozy, 52, refused to answer at the question of when the divorce was requested. Close friends say the separation will not affect in any way the state affairs, although it will have a sentimental impact on the head of the state. Moreover, according to Isabelle Balkany, a friend of the couple, the president's wife had a hard time accepting her role as a first lady. Even she confesses to be bored by such a position and not to be fit for it in a statement to the magazine Tele Star in May 2005. Her withdraw was started to become obvious in June when she left earlier from the first couple official event, a G-8 summit in Germany. Also she skipped lunch with President Bush when they were on holiday in New Hampshire in August. Provided that the critics in France said she was not appropriate for the diplomatic mission of freeing five Bulgarian nurses and a Palestinian doctor in Libya, Cecilia felt really offended. Despite the fact that their problems were not something new for anyone, after their brief separation in 2005 when she was photographed with another man and the reconciliation that followed at the beginning of 2006, everyone expected to last more than 2 years. Indeed they were together for 20 years (11 years married) and raised their five children (two each from their previous marriages, as well as their own 10-year-old son, Louis) showing off with them on 16 May at the presidential inauguration. Even he declared in his 2006 book entitled Testimony that their issues were solved and they will be forever together. Politics, who knows the truth? People say that everything was a strategy in order to avoid the biggest problem he has now with the massive protests that are about to be held in regarding his pension reforms. Stay connected….more to come.

Spouses are U.S. candidates' newest campaign instrument
by Corina Ciubotaru

The race is on for the presidential candidates to become known and loved by their audience, and that involves Americans living and working overseas. Most of the candidates or their spouses have been frequently visiting countries like Britain, where the American population is thriving, to raise funds and show they care for all U.S. citizens. And the citizens do seem impressed, as they have donated $474,000 in the first half of the campaign and analysts expect the sum to top the $900,000 from the last elections. And Britain is a very likely destination for candidates, since Americans living there are the highest contributors, with $350,000 donated so far. Former Prime Ministers Margaret Thatcher and Tony Blair are among the most visited people by U.S. candidates, the Iron Lady being a well-known inspiration for Democrats. Candidates' spouses like Bill Clinton and Michelle Obama did their part too in promoting their loved-ones' candidacy. Both of them attended posh fund-raisers and tried to spread the word on their spouse's miraculous ideas, but even though Obama's wife appeared very natural and warm, it was still the former U.S. president who received the most attention. Democratic candidates Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are leading the race when it comes to funds. They raised $70 million each on the mainland and $200,000 and $51,500 from expats, respectively, so visits to foreign countries are mostly beneficial to the candidates' image and help Americans abroad feel involved in the presidential race back home. Clinton leads in the polls though for Democratic nomination and the first nomination contests are three months away.

Sir Menzies Campbell resigned from head of the Liberal Democrats
by Corina Ciubotaru

In the midst of a powerful battle of statements between the Conservatives and the Labor on the U.K. political scene, the Liberal Democrats seem to be on the brink of extinction. Their 66 year old leader Sir Menzies Campbell announced his resignation yesterday at 6.30 PM, with home affairs Nick Clegg or environment spokesman Chris Huhne as his most likely followers. The party has mostly been going downhill since Sir Campbell became leader, with only 11 percent in a poll on Sunday, the lowest point since 2001, while in May it lost 230 seats in the local council elections. A former Olympic sprinter, Sir Menzies Campbell proved to be a good politician before he rose to leader status in the Liberal Democrat party, as he was a respected spokesman with a very good understanding of external affairs. But with the political class being rejuvenated through leaders like Tory man David Cameron, someone like Sir Campbell was undoubtedly seen as not being able to keep up with the news. Still, he is given credit for bringing stability and professionalism to his party and he admitted himself in his resignation letter that the Lib Dems need to make changes in its internal structure. Unfortunately, Sir Campbell won;t be leading the party through these changes, due to his age; he would be older than 70 by the next elections. His resignation came after 18 months as leader of the party, a place he took over from Charles Kennedy; the interim leader is now Vince Cable.

Democrats like to use internet more than Republicans
by Nina Gotzmannova

When presidential candidates want to have a successful campaign and the best chances to win, they have to do two things. The first one is to set a strategy how to promote themselves in public and how to persuade the majority to vote for them. And to attract public the candidates must advertize and try to sell themselves. The most popular way is to air radio and television spots introducing their work and plans. Most of Americans have their radio or TV and watch it regularly. The other way is to make a webpage with all the relevant stuff, posters, program, opinions and blogs. Readers can easily access the page and see all the information they need. But the internet connection may be problem for elder people, those, who can't work with a computer or visual disabled. Anyway the web pages are the most efficient way how to communicate with the public. The recent research of Nielsen showed, that Democrats are using internet more than Republicans. The most visited web page in the U. S. Presidential Election 2008 belongs to Hillary Clinton with almost 760,000 visitors for August. In comparison, the most visited web page of a Republican in August was the page of former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson with 410,000, although he announced his candidature in September. The biggest amount of TV and radio spots in the air has Bill Richardson. The Democrat candidate has paid for almost 6,000 spots. On the other side, Hillary Clinton has only 2,200 spots, what makes the amount of visitors more logic. If they didn't see her in TV or hear about her in radio, they are more likely to visit her page to learn more about her. Hillary knows that and maybe this strategy will lead to the Presidential chair.

PM Brown is being criticized for delaying elections
by Corina Ciubotaru

Gordon Brown, Britain's Prime Minister is being criticized by all opposing forces but he's not changing his mind about the early elections he once wanted but gave up on. Accused of fearing a negative outcome in the elections, he continues undisturbed on his quest to reform Britain, which he started 3 months ago, after becoming PM. In the end, he still has time until 2010 to call a vote so why worry? He was leading in all the previous polls except for the one last week and has gained popularity after dealing with a possible epidemic and devastating floods. Conservatives took the lead after a number of popular propositions, including cutting taxes for the middle class and a translation in an election this year would mean the Labour would lose 50 seats in their opponents' favor. It looks like the stage is set for a battle between Brown and Conservative leader David Cameron, who wastes no opportunity to attack him and now has the 41 percent to back him up. It's not like the 3 point difference could not be made up by the Labour but it seems the Prime Minister is going to take it slow and show the country what good things can be done by a competent government. His determined and strong style makes him a worthy opponent for Cameron and he took responsibility for delaying this much-anticipated election, by claiming he had other things to worry about during his first 100 days in office, including a bank crisis with Northern Rock.

Obama raises $19 million in quarter
by Delia Cruceru

Monday was the day when most of the presidential candidates released their third quarter fund-raising tallies. By far, Barack Obama is the leader in this competition, as his aides said that he raised at least $20 million over the summer. In this quarter, Democratic presidential candidates surpassed Republicans in the fundraising, and they still continue to raise more money. Barack Obama is the first among his fellow Democrats too, reporting yesterday his latest three month fundraising also announcing that he attracted 93,000 new donors in the period. "Many in Washington have spent the last weeks declaring the outcome of this race to be pre-ordained, and the primary process a mere formality," said Obama campaign manager David Plouffe in a statement. "Yet, in this quarter alone, 93,000 more Americans joined our campaign, because they desire real change and believe Barack Obama is the one candidate who can deliver it." Hillary Clinton had not released her tallies as the quarter ended for her fundraising Sunday night, according to her aides she will release her totals later this week, and it's expected to raise a similar amount as Obama did. The Republican Fred Thompson raised almost $8 million in July, August and September bringing his total fundraising to $11.5 million. Rudy Giuliani hasn't released a tally but over the weekend he declared that he would "do as well as the other Republicans, maybe we will do better than some." Mitt Romney collected only $10 million from donors, using at least $6million of his money for the campaign.
