Agreement on New START and tax policies by Milota Sidorova

Few weeks ago US President Barack Obama stepped on unstable ground of negotiations with Republicans. The party that surprisingly took over the majority in the House was expected to slow down the pace and easy passage of so called „Democrat's reforms“. But according to last news the first White House meeting went along quite smoothly – cautious, vague but without major crisis. Last time US-Russian nuclear treaty START was on the program along with taxes. START that was seen as Obama's personal achievment or a demand to pass on swallowed a lot of meeting leaving no room for more problems. But despite some objections Republicans were literally expected to agr! ee with the treaty decreasing number of old nuclear weapons in both countries on equal 1,550. Expections turned out to be true after the Senate quickly ratified the proposal. Obama didn't hesitate to express confidence over the step. The treaty called a New START just continues negotiations of previous President Bush with Russian President Boris Yeltzin in 1993. New START was passed at the time when Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski was on his official journey to White House. Despite 1,000 years of complicated relationships with Russia he virtually approved the treaty. Republicans voiced support for New START even before the tax plan was passed. According to original proposal, tax cuts and benefits would be extended for the poorest class, but Republicans changed that and imposed tax reductions on everyone, including people with income over $250,000. These people were original target of Obama's social reform, but in order to make his plans to go through Congress, tax eq! uality seemed to be just a little sacrifice. Tax reductions wi! ll be en riched by 13-month jobless benefits.
