Democrats have votes for health bill by Magdalena Rosova

Decmocrats in the US Congress are sure that they have enough votes to pass a healthcare reform bill. Healthcare reform is a key part of Barack Obama's policy in US. John Larson, a head of the House Democratic Caucus, said on ABC that Democrats have enough votes to pass the bill despite strong opposition from Republicans. The new legislation would cost up to $2.5 trillion and would extend health coverage to 32 million uninsured industry practices. The bill would cover 95 percent of all Americans and everyone would need to have insurance. Republicans criticize the plan saying it would increase the budget deficit and reduce choices for patients. The healthcare insurance! industry is strongly against the plan and according to polls many Americans also oppose it. However, it seems that Democrats found enough votes to pass the bill. Even anti-abortion Democrat Bart Stupak, who had opposed the plan, has now decided to support the bill. His support persuaded many others Democrats who were afraid that the bill would allow federal funding of abortions. Republicans do not believe Democrats have enough votes to pass the bill and they promised to do everything possible to block it. The House will vote on the bill on Sunday afternoon. If the bill gets sufficient support it will become law once Obama signs it. Obama traveled to Capitol Hill and urged House Democrats to support the bill in the crucial moment, otherwise the party will be politically hurt in its home district. Because of the angry debates over the bill, Obama's public approval ratings fell to about 50 percent in polls.
