Standing on the rooftop & shouting...
by Barbora Misakova

For those of us who live in free, democratic country is something like stealing votes unacceptable. Victory of someone we didn’t actually choose is simply thievery. It would not be considered only as a straight attack on our free mind, but also on our civil law. For those of us, who never had (fortunately) such an experience, it is hardly to understand what the cries “Allahu Akbar” (what means “God is Great”) and “Death to the Dictator” actually means. It is not hatred and wish of death to someone. It is just hunger for justice. While Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad claims his victory is legal, his opponent Hossein Mousavi cla! ims that Ahmadinejad stole the June 12 election by fraud. And he is not alone. The same think thousands of Iranian and students shouting these cries and they mean it. As Mousavi said: “a great nation wouldn’t stay silent when some confiscate its vote.” and he was right. Many citizens of Tehran are standing on the rooftops calling for justice. The fact they are not alone and they have many encouragers also abroad made Iranian government to choke off Internet access. As Associated Press informed, the government didn’t acknowledge it was behind the outages, but it didn’t have to as Iran’s service providers said the problem was not on their end and it was not a technical glitch. As it seems Iran’s authorities are not big fans of constructive criticism, not only from side of own citizens but also journalists whose accreditations were suspended by Iran’s Culture Ministry from Monday to Wednesday. When they publish anything what woul! d Iran’s government consider to be “divisive”! ; materi al, they can end up like many others journalists and bloggers – held and arrested. Even though I am not Iranian, and even though I am not Mousavi’s follower, I am shouting: “Allahu Akbar! Death to the Dictator!”
