Obama: just an average president
by Barbora Misakova

When Barack Obama won the presidential campaign, the whole world was surprised: some of us positively, some of us not. But whatever the reactions were, we all were expecting fulfillment of that “Yes we can!” promises or we were at least curious what would arise from it. The big part of the world was so enthusiastic and his inauguration was the biggest and the most joyful moment in Obama’s administration. The day when he took the office his popularity reached its height. Soon the 2010 midterms will come and now it is a time to look at Obama’s prestige and position as politician. One year after the election Obama represents nothing more than average pr! esident. If the election was holding now, he would probably win again, but it wouldn’t be so joyful event as it was one year ago. Even though there is still more than 50 percent of Americans approving his political steps, his popularity is already gone. Just like the hope and enthusiasm of his campaign. At the beginning he has minorities, young people, first-time voters, Republican crossovers and also independents on his side. Today it is hard to say, if they support him again. Especially independents are unstable. They are kingmakers, but they are extraordinarily fickle, and that could cost Obama his presidential seat. Obama as a first black USA president and a Nobel Prize winner achieved a lot, but it is just his personal height. As American president he achieved almost nothing, only one thing: his popularity dropped and today it is slightly below-average.
