It’s been said, during the time of crisis people seem to reconsider values and old feelings. They remember past and the whole time lapse is being idealized. Nevertheless, it’s good fortune for stable political parties. Solid values and long lasting portfolio seem to be proper answer to unstable times. Talking about Angela Merkel, this may be additional speed up factor. Merkel won Sunday national election and will prolong her governing up to eight years. Of course, Merkel has been standing on the scene for many years and her courageous and solid attitude towards world’s and national problems created her own image. She proved to be successful and effectiv! e politician woman, able to lead the biggest economy in Europe. Her partnership with Christian Democrats, her image and career made her a winner. However, it wouldn’t be just gossips suggesting that Merkel won the election by herself. She’s became an icon, mascot and prime person in the party. The party itself, didn’t show any stronger performance. Things are changing for her colleagues. Election sent the nation's main left-wing party, the Social Democrats, into oppostition after 11 years as a part of the government. Party leader, the Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said it was a bitter defeat. How is the situation Merkel has to face? First of all, she has surprisingly announced her coalition partners were Free Democrats, party returning back to parliament after eleven years. She has to create government and quickly solve urgent issues, above all Afghan troops, tax cuts and relieves and alternative energy plan. Christian Democrats gained up to ! 33.8 percent, Social Democrats reached 23 percent level, Free ! Democrat s got almost 15 percent, the Left Party did 12 percent and Greens gained above 10 percent.
