This is just a beginning…
by Barbora Misakova

After successful presidential election someone could think, the hardest times are already behind us. But it’s not truth. Every elected president has after elections even more work to do than before them. Except moving to White house there is one more thing to do – select those who will be working with you. Every new leader must chose his “knights” who will fight side-by-side with him for one thing – order in their homeland. And this process is not easy neither quick. Few names were already known: Hilary Clinton will be Secretary of State, Tom Daschle will be Secretary of Health and Human Services, Janet Napolitano may be the nominee for Homeland Security. Secretary of the Treasury will be most likely Tim Geithner. And the latest mentioned name was name of New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, which was Obama’s nominee for commerce secretary.

Richardson, 61, had spent 14 years in White House and under President Bill Clinton he served as U.N. ambassador. Richardson as the international negotiator was successful in many cases and as said David Goldwyn, national security deputy at the U.N. in the late 1990s, his success stems from lot of aspects of his personality. His persuading skills are more than praiseworthy – for example he spent four hours at the table when he tried to persuade President Laurent Kabila to let a U.N. team investigate massacres in Congo. As Goldwyn said, Richardson “is all about crashing through boundaries” and even people can think he is undisciplined; the truth is that he is only relentless. Richardson was also in Democratic presidential run, but he dropped out in January. Either we agree with Obama’s nominees or not, all we should realize now is that this is just the beginning…
