Confident Obama, McCain hopes to gain in debate
by Magdalena Rosova

Barack Obama hopes to keep his leading position in the polls while John McCain is doing everything to outrun his rival in the second presidential debate.

The tension between two presidential candidates has grown rapidly as it is only four weeks to Election Day. Tuesday night’s debate is one of the last McCain’s chance to persuade the voters that he is able to deal with the crisis in economy, stock markets and housing.

The debate held at Belmont University will allow voters to ask questions and will be moderated by Tom Brokaw from NBC´s. The last debate will be Oct. 15 at Hofstra University in Hempsted, N.Y.

The Tuesday’s debate may me much more personal and pointed that the last one from Sept. 26 if the candidates repeat the recent campaign accusations and personal attacks.

Some Republicans advice McCain to change his tactics and focus more on the issues, not character, to overtake Obama. McCain has to be careful according to his disadvantage because voters always criticize the canditdate of the party which is in the power. Therefore McCain needs to show that he has the best solutions.

Obama adviser David Axelrod told that Obama wants to focus on economic issues in the debate but is prepared to be very aggressive if it becomes more personal.

The debate is being held in the time most American are not satisfied with the way things are going in the U.S. According to a Gallup Poll released Tuesday only 9 percent say they like the country’s direction, which is the lowest number in 29 years. 69 percent said the main country’s problem is the economy.
