Obama shifts, says he may back offshore drilling
by Paulina Neshybova

On Friday, the democratic presidential candidate sadi, that he will probably support the offshore oil drilling, because it could help the energy policy with fuel efficient small cars adn probably maybe later develop the alternative energy sources.
Obama does not want to see a gridlock over energy, therefore he is trying to make a compromise with Republicans. Of course, his political and presidentail rival McCain has been criticizing Obama for that new statement. According to him, is is only because the high gas prices. He also thinks that Obama does not have proposals that could be enough for energy challeneges. Analysts think that this coul help McCain gain some voices form Obama´s polls.
However, Obama is talking about it, mainly because of putting down the gas prices, as well. He wants to make the drilling strategy very careful so they would not damage environment siginificantly.
Thee were many fights about this offshore drilling between both parties, but the truth is that many of the lawmakers have their summer vactions for more than5 weeks. Therefore there were some proposlas about dealing wtih this issue more closely in September, when everyone gets back from their recesses. Obama warmly wlcomed that proposal written by 10 senators, 5 from each party. But Obama stays still critical to the offshore drilling, because accoridng to him it will not have much effect in a short tiem period. However, it could help other future decisions about drilling to be based on science. Now, Obama is trying to link McCain with not so popular Bush and his policy. Yet, he talked to the crowd with the job losses and offered his opinions and ideas as a relief from that situation.
