Poll: USA less popular, but the election can change everything by Silvia Szarkova

“ People think the U.S. wants to run the world, “ said Andrew Kohut, president of Pew Research Center, which provided a-month-long poll in 24 countries this spring. The poll was released Thursday and brought some interesting statement about the opinion of other countries towards US. People globally think, that election is the best way for USA to heal the country´s policy towards the rest of the world. France, Spain and Germany are hopeful that a new president can improve a lot- those are the countries with the strongest voice against Bush policy in Iraq. India, Nigeria, Tanzania and South Africa also think the change in number one man can only help- those are the countries, which collaboration with US is not so intensive. According to Japan, Turkey, Russia, South Korea and Mexico the election cannot change significant and Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon have strong expectations the next president can only worse. Barack Obama is the number one candidate according to the majority- people of 20 countries expressed more confidence about him. His edge was the biggest in Western Europe, Australia, Japan, Tanzania and, of course, Indonesia, where Obama spent a little bit of his childhood. The two competitors were tied in U.S. Jordan and Pakistan, but U.S. Was the only country, where the majority expressed confidence towards McCain.Bad a kind of bad news for U. S. is also the fact that people participating the survey had a feeling that American slumping economy is hurtinh also their national countries, including Britain, Germany, France, Turkey and Japan. But that is not over- also 6 out of ten Americans think that their economy has an negative influence abroad. The survey was provided in 17 countries by the method of face to face, and by telephone in remaining seven, local languages was used.
