The name of the other presidential candidate who will campaign against Republican John McCain is finally known. Well, it is not that much of a surprise that Barack Obama beat Hillary Rodham Clinton in primaries, but Hillary's supporters, mainly women and working class voters, and Hillary herself were unwilling to give up till the last moment. The last period of the race was tough for her though due to constant trouble with money. It became clear that she loaned herself another 6.4 million dollars after the initial loan of five million dollar. It is probable she stayed in the race for so long only to raise some money to pay her debts. So now the battle is between Republican nominee and Senator for the state Arizona John McCain, 71 and Democrat and senator for Illinois Barack Obama, 46. Let's wait and see whether it will be the oldest first/term president or the first black president. There are 5 months of general election campaign ahead of the United States. “In a contest between myself and John McCain there is going to be a very clear choice on policy,” said Obama. “I think this is going to be a very concrete contest around very specific plans for how we improve the lives of Americans and our vision for the future and that's a debate I'm going to welcome.” in their speeches given on the occasion of starting the general elections both candidates emphasized the upcoming change for the country if they are chosen. “The wrong change looks not to the future but to the past solutions that have failed us before and will surely fail us again,” said McCain who spoke as first. Of course, they did not forget about defeated Democrat Hillary Clinton and had only words of praise for her.
