Counted delegates
by Barbora Misakova
To be honest, policy is not for me. Actually I don't understand why all those people are still trying to be the best in the eyes of others, if they sooner or later come with truth. No one is perfect, and president is only a man too. But anyway everyone, especially in the United States these days, is living for presidential election. Everyone pays attention to the candidates, everyone is monitoring the situation in the state, everyone is watching TV, reading newspapers, listening to radio. Everyone wants to know as much as possible to give his vote to the right person. But nominees for president could be complicated a little bit. Contest of delegates is coming.Wall Street Journal regards this elections for epoch-making because it is for the first time in 80 years when president and vice-president are not among candidates and so this contest has no evident leader neither among Democrats, nor Republicans. Democrats have two-step system & so there is higher possibility that the primary winner might not win the most delegates to the party's national convention. There are 370 Democratic delegates, the primary should determine first 126 delegates, and then caucuses should determine 67 delegates. In the primary election, delegates will be chosen according to their votes in 31 Senate districts. During the second election, candidates will be chosen according to their statewide results of the caucuses. Pledged delegates won primaries and caucuses among Democrats were Obama and Clinton. On the Republican side senator John McCain could confirm his presidential nomination & with his 1014 delegates needs only 177 more to get 1191 needed for the nomination. If candidate gets more than 50 percent, than he is a statewide winner; if he doesn't get so much, the statewide delegates will be chosen from the candidates with at least 20 percent of the vote.
