Presidential fight
by Claudia Sonea

Presidential elections are putting in move the candidates, if democratic Barack Obama announced on Thursday that he managed to raise a record of 32 million dollars in January, as he competed with Hillary Clinton on Tuesday for votes, California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger praised Arizona Senator John McCain thus offering advantages to the Republican front-runner for the next week's crucial contests in some 22 states. The famous movie star, currently the governor of California, presented most favorably McCain's environmental an economical platform and also his leadership. He decided to support McCain after former New York mayor Rudolph Giuliani quitted the race on Wednesday because he did not manage to make an impact. Due to the fact that Schwarzenegger's state has a lot of delegates for the party's national convention in September, the Republican nominee is more likely to contest the November elections and become the new President. However, McCain's campaign was affected by the heated televised debate he had at the Reagan Presidential Library outside Los Angeles, when senator Romney accused the his campaign of waging a dirty tricks campaign by implying that Romney had previously advocated a phased withdrawal of US troops from Iraq. At the other pole, the Democratic race is between Obama, 46, and Clinton, 60, after former senator John Edwards retired on Wednesday. Campaign organizers revealed that the Illinois senator brought in some 32 million dollars in funds from some 650,000 people only in January. Obama's campaign manager David Plouffe confirmed the figures, while a spokesman for the former first lady and New York senator said that what counted was how people voted. The two rivals will meet face to face later on Thursday in a debate in the Hollywood Boulevard hall where the Academy Awards ceremonies have been held since 2001. Clinton at a public appearance in her old hometown of Little Rock, Arkansas on Wednesday, said voters in New Hampshire, Michigan, Nevada and Florida supported her not only with their hearts, but also with their heads. Both Obama and Clinton must keep an eye on their possible Republican opponent in the November election, with McCain now as the favourite. According to the national polls the fight will be tight.
