Obama leading in AP poll
by Zuzana Zelenakova
United States presidential elections 2008 have several leading personalities. Two Democratic Party candidates Hillary Rodham Clinton, US Senator for New York and Barack Obama, US Senator for Illinois, and candidate for the Republican Party John McCain, senator for Arizona. According to the Associated Press-Ipsos poll revealed on Monday, Democrat Obama has a narrow lead over McCain, while Hillary Clinton is about even with the Republican candidate. It is the first insight into the voters sentiment since last week, when Tuesday Supper presidential contests were held around the country and Republican Mitt Romney departed from the race. John McCain is now likely Republican nominee. Clinton and Obama are still fighting over the leading position in Democratic campaign with no end in sight. When people were asked which candidate they would choose if the presidential race was held now Obama won the poll with 48 percent over McCain with his 42 percent. Clinton beat out McCain in their matchup with 46 percent to his 45 percent. When it comes to the race for the Democratic nomination Barack Obama is ahead of Hillary Clinton with 46 percent to 41 percent. "We bring in voters who haven't given Democrats a chance in the past," said Obama pollster Cornell Belcher pointing out the independents and other groups' support for the Illinois senator. When it comes to the age issue, Clinton wins older women in general while younger men are inclined to choose Obama. The survey was taking place from 7 to 10 February with 1,029 people being interviewed through the telephone.
