Elections
by Zuzana Valkova

Oh my God, politics again. I know some people hate politics, they don't speak about it, they don't think about it. I used to be the same before. But then after my last year on High School, I understood the importance of it. We are happy because in our country we can choose our politicians, the most important persons, directly. Who get the most votes is the winner. But in the US it's different. The elections are totally different. I know you are probably not interested, but I will tell you only the main things. Citizens give vote for their favorite candidate to special person called elector. After that elector is voting for that candidate who got the most votes. And it's like this in every state in the US. A little complicated. Anything can happen. I spoke to many Americans, and I asked them about the president. And everyone told me that they didn't vote for Bush. So tell me how is possible that he won? So who voted for him then? Some of those people didn't understand too, but it was late. The States are the most powerful state & president is the most powerful person in the world. I can imagine that in so big country can be chaos. But that's why they should be more careful. People should decide and act responsibly. Many Americans don't even go vote, because they don't care. They are loosing the chance to decide, and they are loosing this chance for others too. But there are always some who can't wait to wake up and go vote.
