Chris Cantell Discusses Politics: The Super Tuesday
by Jana Passova
Yesterday, Feb 5, America lived out the biggest day of U.S. nominating candidates competition. This Tuesday known as The Super Tuesday, didn't bring a big surprise this year. Super Tuesday always fall on Tuesday in early February or March of the year that presidential election is organized. The highest number of American states holds primary election in order to select delegates. Every party has its own presidential candidates nominated. This day is special because more delegates can become the winner on that day. The other important thing is that candidate must do well to secure his or her party nomination. Yesterday held primaries in 24 states. Democrats are represented by Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. On the Republican side stay John McCain and Mitt Romney. The Super Tuesday brought these results. John McCain moved ahead. On the other hand Mrs. Hillary Clinton gets behind Barack Obama. Today's polls shows Mrs. Clinton has got most voices in California. Finally she was promoted in 7 states. Barack Obama is the winner in 13 states. Anyway this is only the number of states, which can candidates help to win. The party of Democrats is planning to use a proportional representation form, where the number of delegates for each candidate depends on the percentage received in the state voting. This means Mrs. Clinton has now 845 delegates and Barack Obama 765 ones. The Republicans use another system. The winner who wins the state will take most of the state delegates. That moved Mr. McCain with his 8 victories ahead. Number of delegates that he has is 613 and on account of Romney is 269 delegates.
