Thailand has a new Prime Minister
by Paula Puskarova

Thailand has a new Prime Minister! And it is a woman! A new-mannered woman called Ms. Samak Sundaravej who is gonna lead new 6-party-government. Well, good luck, brave girl! Even almost the 60 % of the Thai people do "believe that the government won't be able to complete its term because it is a coalition of a small parties," said Noppadon Kanikar, director of the research center. Samak wants a new, changed Thailand, and less violence in the south, but she is the one who is said to force her staff to hold to their noses as a sign that they refer to her! She doesn't seem very conciliatory. In fact, she does have a slightly resemblance to an iron lady. At this point, I think, it has some kind of a reason to compare her to her "forerunner" as the head of the government - Thaksin Shinawatra. Well, at least, Thaksin was clever enough to rake together quite some money to buy his own football club. And it is not just a poor, funny playing team, but quite a catch called Manchester City football club. Good for him! Seems that he could give some lessons to Samak how to make a fortune and still be popular among people. He started his career as a policeman and when he ascended to power 5 years ago, he was well educated - He took the role of a "good father", who can handle any situation that occurs. He was quite famous with his very "gently" and clearly put orders: " Put up or shut up". Anyway, he succeeded to bring Thailand into the WTO on the 11th January 2007. It is just a terrible pity that he did not forget to behave as a policeman and embarked his military policy based on the knowledge: "If a special situation occurs, you still have the army to handle it". Maybe, Thailand is not ready for the full democracy, the country is still struggling to find its place in the international community & both as a culture and as an economy. As for my personal piece of advice to Thaksin, he should have watched his family first! His fall is a wonderful example how not to support all your family's actions because they can bring you down and what's more, rout you to an exile. Anyway, considering a new Prime Minister, time is gonna change in the Thai society and we all will witness that.
