Opposition triumphed in Lebanon
by Ana Maria Ciobanu
The candidate sustained by the leader of the Christian opposition in Lebanon, Micheal Aoun won the partial elections for the two deputy chairs which had remained unoccupied after the death of two members of the Parliament. The elections were organized in Metn, near Beirut According to the official results published Sunday after midnight, the FPM candidate, Camille Khoury obtained 39.534 votes, while the ex President Amil Gemayel(whose sustainers filed an "official complaint concerning the results"), got only 39.116 votes. Prime Minister Fouad Siniora declared that the votes were a civilized response to political assassination. Pierre Gemayel and Walid Eido are the latest victims in a growing trend of anti-Syrians to be killed on the streets of Beirut. International condemnation was spread after the Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri was assassinated in 2005. The news is very difficult to comment because you'd have to talk about a whole different culture which you can't possibly understand without feeling it. Just like anti-Syrians or anti-Semitic people can't understand how we can possibly tolerate to stand next to them, we can't understand these conflicts and these atrocities. I can't picture a way this hateful war will ever end.
